Job Description
Liver transplant surgeon is a highly specialized medical professional who performs complex surgical procedures to replace diseased livers with healthy donor organs. They evaluate patients’ eligibility, coordinate with multidisciplinary transplant teams, and manage pre- and post-operative care. They also supervise transplant protocols, immunosuppression strategies, and follow-up. Their role improves patient survival and quality of life through life-saving liver transplantation services.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess transplant candidates’ medical histories, risks, and donor compatibility.
- Lead surgical procedures for liver removal and implantation with precision.
- Collaborate with hepatologists, anesthetists, and intensive-care teams seamlessly.
- Manage intraoperative bleeding and vascular reconstruction during transplant surgery.
- Monitor postoperative recovery, liver function, and patient complications carefully.
- Develop immunosuppression plans and adjust regimens to prevent organ rejection.
- Provide long-term follow-up, patient education, and preventive care.
- Maintain transplant registry data and contribute to quality-improvement efforts.
Skill & Experience
- Proficient in complex hepatobiliary and vascular reconstructive surgical techniques.
- Strong decision-making under pressure in high-risk, life-critical environments.
- Excellent teamwork and communication with multidisciplinary transplant professionals.
- In-depth understanding of immunology, graft rejection, and immunosuppressive therapy.
