Job Description

Liver transplant surgeon is a highly specialized medical professional who performs complex surgical procedures to replace diseased livers with healthy donor organs. They evaluate patients’ eligibility, coordinate with multidisciplinary transplant teams, and manage pre- and post-operative care. They also supervise transplant protocols, immunosuppression strategies, and follow-up. Their role improves patient survival and quality of life through life-saving liver transplantation services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess transplant candidates’ medical histories, risks, and donor compatibility.
  • Lead surgical procedures for liver removal and implantation with precision.
  • Collaborate with hepatologists, anesthetists, and intensive-care teams seamlessly.
  • Manage intraoperative bleeding and vascular reconstruction during transplant surgery.
  • Monitor postoperative recovery, liver function, and patient complications carefully.
  • Develop immunosuppression plans and adjust regimens to prevent organ rejection.
  • Provide long-term follow-up, patient education, and preventive care.
  • Maintain transplant registry data and contribute to quality-improvement efforts.

Skill & Experience

  • Proficient in complex hepatobiliary and vascular reconstructive surgical techniques.
  • Strong decision-making under pressure in high-risk, life-critical environments.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication with multidisciplinary transplant professionals.
  • In-depth understanding of immunology, graft rejection, and immunosuppressive therapy.
  • Skilled in patient evaluation, risk assessment, and perioperative planning.
