Aga Khan University (AKU) is a private, non-profit institution founded in 1983 in Karachi, Pakistan, as the country’s first private university. Established by His Highness the Aga Khan IV, AKU operates under the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) and has expanded its presence across multiple countries, including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, the United Kingdom, and Afghanistan.
Initially focusing on health sciences, AKU has diversified its offerings to include education in nursing, midwifery, medicine, teacher education, and the study of Muslim civilizations.
